Geo & Tex 2000 spa is one of the companies that offered financial support for the organization of the exhibition I, CANOVA European genius organized by the Administration of Bassano del Grappa on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the artist’s death.
“Our company – declared the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Renato Campana – is very careful to co-operate with the administrations, organizations and social realities of the territory, supporting sporting and cultural projects and events. It is for this reason that we have responded to the appeal of the Administration of Bassano del Grappa by offering our support: it is not just an exhibition but a project for the renassaince and the cultural tourism of our territory.
The artist Antonio Canova, the greatest sculptor of the Neoclassical era, thanks to his art, was able to overcome physical and geographical boundaries working at the most important European courts of the time; Canova well represents the spirit of our company, which over the last 20 years has expanded its commercial penetration throughout Europe, becoming one of the leaders in the non-woven geotextile market.”
Overall, over 140 works will be exhibited including sculptures, paintings, drawings and precious documents, coming from important Italian and European public and private collections.
Among the sculptures there is “LA MADDALENA GIACENTE (THE LAYING MAGDALENE)”, came from England, which is Canova’s latest masterpiece, found after almost two centuries.
For the occasion, the museum has been renovated and more welcoming.
The companies that financially supported the exhibition have adopted 15 sculptures and three exhibition rooms: Geo & Tex 2000 spa has adopted the statue of DAMOSSENO, created by the artist in 1796.
The statue represents the boxer Damossenus and the original is currently exposed in the Vatican museums. The work was commissioned and purchased by Pope Pius VII to fill the gaps left by the Napoleonic removals of art works.
In ancient Greece, in the city of Nemea, athletes from all cities met every two years to compete in athletic competitions: in a challenge, Creugante from Durazzo and Damosseno from Syracuse arrived in perfect equality. It was then decided that each of the two antagonists remaining in the race could, as a last act, deliver a single blow to the opponent and thus conclude the exhausting duel.
