In this period, works in progress for the construction of cells 5,6,7,8 inside the landfill for non-hazardous waste located in the municipality of Cordenons. Structurally, it is a typical lowland landfill, with part of the reservoir excavated and the other part raised to a maximum of 82.40 m above sea level.
The four new cells will be completed within 2023.
With reference to the environmental safety, it is important to pay attention to the protection of the waterproofing system arranged for the bottom of the cells and designed in compliance with all current regulations in order to avoid possible contamination of the subsoil and existing groundwater.

The design stratigraphy was designed in compliance with Italian Legislative Decree 36/2003 and provides for the following elements from bottom to top:

  • Bottom barrier made of compacted clay, 100 cm thick;
  • Bentonite geocomposite bed;
  • HDPE geomembrane with a thickness of 2.5 mm;
  • Non-woven protective geotextile (mass per unit area 800 g);
  • Sand layer (20 cm thick);
  • PE geonet having a separation function with a 3.5x3.5 mm mesh;
  • Gravel layer for the bottom drainage of leachate (thickness 30 cm).

Overall, the plant required an investment of over 16 million euros: the first four cells (1,2,3,4) were inaugurated in 2019, another four (5,6,7,8) will become active in 2023. In 7 years (2019-2026) it will be possible to treat a total quantity of around 700,000 tons of waste.

Thanks to its flexibility and adaptability, GEO PP AG together with the other geosynthetics, allows to build an infrastructure capable of guaranteeing the needs of modern society: minimum possible impact on the environment, saving of natural resources, protection of groundwater, streamlining of installation procedures and consequent saving of time and money.
