Geotextile function: protection of the waterproof membrane

Last autumn the new basin for artificial snow was completed in Val Mastellina, in the ski area called FOLGARIDA MARILEVA.
Basin features:
- Volume: 192.000 cubic meters
- Summit perimeter: 630 linear meters
- Base perimeter 360 linear meters
- Surface area: approximately 29.000 m2
- Altitude: 1995 m
Within the stratigraphy of the project, non-woven geotextiles were used both before laying the waterproof membrane (synthetic covering in flexible polyolefin with a thickness of 2.5 mm), to avoid mechanical damage at the sealing element due to the possible presence of angular stone elements in the ground; both after having installed the membrane to protect it during the subsequent processing phases up to the commissioning of the system.
The infrastructure required a total investment of over 16 million euros; 10 millions for the basin alone.
Sevis, the company that built the infrastructure, once again completed the work in record time in a mountain area that is difficult to be reached, concentrating its activities between April and November.
As a supplier, it was important to guarantee punctual deliveries, both in terms of material availability both in terms of high-altitude transport, in order to avoid delays in carrying out the various design phases.
